ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
This will be a taping of a musical production in the style of NBC and FOX LIVE! that will be filmed live and edited substantially afterwards and out of sequence for certain moments. Note: This is not a digital theatre production, this is a filmed television special intended for streaming/digital release which will be produced under a SAG Microbudget Contract under LIU Brooklyn’s TV Writers Studio (in association with Unattended Baggage).
This is a graduate student film partially funded by LIU Brooklyn and will be released on multiple streaming platforms free of charge beginning on 11/10/22. There will be three weeks of rehearsal including tech.
This will be a COVID compliant production and the children will be tested more than once a week for COVID with a COVID Compliance Officer.
This is a paid opportunity.
IMPORTANT DATES
1st rehearsal (over Zoom): 10/16/22 (parents MUST attend for an info session)
Read Thru (over Zoom): 10/20/22
1st in person rehearsal: 10/22/22
Tech: 10/30/22-11/3/22
Final Dress: 11/4/22
Taping: 11/5/22 (two tapings; one in the afternoon & one at night)
REHEARSAL SCHEDULE & LOCATION
We will be rehearsing after school hours until 8PM at the latest Monday-Friday mostly at LIU Brooklyn with some rehearsals until tech week. During tech week, we will be at the 14th St Y in Manhattan. Not all children will be called for all rehearsals. We will be in rehearsals for two weeks until tech, where children will be called every day. Rehearsals during the week will be 5-7:30PM, on Saturdays from 9-12:30 and Sunday in the early afternoon, exact time TBD. Children will not be taken out of school with the exception of 11/4 during our day taping (call will be around noon).
AUDITION INFORMATION
We will be accepting auditions by VIDEO ONLY by October 10th at midnight (previous deadline Sept 16) to verymerrycasting at gmail dot com. Please email headshot, resume, along with a video of your child singing an 18 bar cut of a contemporary musical theatre song and any supplementary video materials of your child performing and dancing (these are very helpful to us if you have them). If we are interested, we will email you back inviting your child to callbacks along with a Google Form asking for detailed information about conflicts which MUST be filled out and sent back prior to callbacks.
WHAT TO PREPARE
See above—for video auditions, a video of an 18 bar cut of a contemporary musical theatre song, headshot, resume and any supplementary videos of your child performing and/or dancing.
BREAKDOWN:
The following roles are open to anyone regardless of gender:
L RON HUBBARD: Our lead, snake oil salesman of Scientology. The embodiment of capitalism and lies.
FEATURED SOLOIST ROLES: We are most importantly seeking diversity of different racial backgrounds, body type, and ability. We’re looking for children that bring something special and unique with comic ability to play a wide variety of roles throughout the show from space robots, part of a brain, an auditor, Tom Cruise, and many more. All of these roles will get a time to “shine” and have solo moments.
SWINGS: We will be casting 1-2 swings for the Featured Soloist Roles. Swings may be featured in the taping if they don’t have to cover.
